Dental implants or dental implant restoration is a modern oral surgery technique. Residents of the Charlotte, Lake Norman, and Cornelius areas who wish to permanently replace missing teeth can consult the expertly trained dentists at Welborne, White & O'Leary Dentistry about this advanced treatment option.
The dental implants procedure involves the use of special titanium posts that have been surgically integrated with a patient’s jawbone and gum tissue. A natural-looking dental implant restoration (artificial tooth) is placed on top of each of these titanium posts. Since dental implants are anchored to a patient’s bone and soft tissues, they function just like real teeth, allowing patients to eat the foods they used to enjoy. Dental implants look so natural that no one but your dentist will be able to tell they are not your original teeth.
Some patients may not be good candidates for dental implants or may be eligible for other dental implant-supported dental appliances, such as implant-supported dentures. This will be determined during a consultation with your dentist. For more information or to find out if you are a good candidate for dental implants, please contact our practice, serving the Charlotte, Lake Norman, and Cornelius, North Carolina areas today.
Welborne, White & O'Leary Dentistry is proud to offer the powerful Zoom!® teeth whitening system to our patients in the Lake Norman, Charlotte, and Cornelius, North Carolina areas. Zoom!® teeth whitening has been proven to whiten teeth an average of eight shades in a single, one-hour office visit. Zoom!® teeth whitening is an excellent way to improve the appearance of teeth that have become discolored as a result of smoking, coffee, tea, soft drinks, wine, medications, and the natural aging process.
During Zoom!® teeth whitening, the dentist first applies the hydrogen-peroxide-based Zoom!® whitening gel to the tooth enamel, then exposes the gel to the Zoom!® whitening lamp. At the end of the procedure, your teeth are given a quick fluoride treatment, and you will emerge from our office with a vibrant new smile. Results from Zoom!® teeth whitening can last indefinitely with proper home-maintenance and touch-ups. To learn more about Zoom!® teeth whitening or to schedule a consultation at our Cornelius office serving the Lake Norman and Charlotte, North Carolina areas, contact our cosmetic dentistry practice today.
Dental veneers are thin sheaths made of durable, tooth-colored porcelain that are bonded to the front of teeth. Porcelain veneers are an excellent way to conceal imperfections such as stains, chips, and cracks, or to create better shape and alignment in the teeth. In fact, veneers are so versatile and simple to apply that they are frequently used as “instant orthodontics” to straighten teeth and restore symmetry to a smile without the use of braces. Porcelain veneers are strong, long lasting, and completely natural looking.
The porcelain veneers procedure is done in three distinct stages: evaluation and planning, tooth preparation, and final application. To complete the first stage, your dentist at Welborne, White & O’Leary will carefully evaluate the tooth or teeth that will be replaced with dental veneers. Together you will discuss all phases of the treatment and plan for the next stage in the process.
Before dental veneers can be applied, the teeth must be prepared to accommodate the layer of porcelain that will be added to them. This is accomplished at your second appointment, during which a small layer of enamel is gently removed from the selected teeth. Once the teeth have been prepped, the dentist will make a dental mold that will be used to create your customized porcelain veneers. Temporary veneers are then placed on the prepared teeth giving the patient a beautiful and straight smile instantly. The temporaries are worn for a few weeks while the permanent veneers are fabricated by the laboratory.
At your third and final appointment, your brand new custom veneers will be bonded to the front of your teeth using a unique, tooth-colored cement. A specialized lamp will be focused on the veneers to harden and fortify the cement bond. When the bonding process is complete, you will be ready to share and enjoy your beautiful new smile. While it may take about five to seven days for you to become accustomed to the new size and shape of your teeth, the results will be instant and remarkable.
To learn more about what porcelain veneers could do for your smile, please contact our Lake Norman area practice in Cornelius today.
In addition to traditional porcelain veneers, we are pleased to offer LUMINEERS® by CERINATE® to our Charlotte area patients. LUMINEERS® are very similar to conventional veneers, but the porcelain strips are thinner. The difference is their size often means that a layer of enamel from the original tooth does not need to be removed to prepare for placement of the veneer. Avoiding this step also means that the veneers can be placed without the use of anesthetic. For these reasons, many patients may find that the LUMINEERS® technology is a more convenient option for them. To learn more about LUMINEERS®, please contact our Charlotte area office.
Crowns are caps that cover the teeth, restoring shape and strength to a damaged or badly discolored tooth. They restore function and aesthetic appeal to the tooth, while also making it more resistant to injury. Crowns can also be used to improve symmetry amongst the teeth and to create better balance in the bite—often relieving the pain associated with TMJ disorder. Ultimately, porcelain crowns will strengthen teeth while dramatically enhancing the appearance of your smile.
At Welborne, White & O’Leary, we use the revolutionary CEREC® 3D system to provide exceptional porcelain crowns. CEREC stands for “Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic,” and was designed to allow patients to complete the entire tooth restoration procedure in just one visit—no hassles with scheduling or repeat appointments! Treatment with CEREC® is fast and easy. First, the dentist will take digital pictures of your tooth using the unique CEREC® camera. With these pictures, the 3D computer software creates a multidimensional model of your prepared tooth, and you can watch as the dentist quickly designs your new crown. The finished design is then electronically sent to the CEREC® milling unit, where your custom-colored crown is produced in less than 20 minutes. Finally, the dentist will polish the crown and bond it to the damaged tooth for a lasting, natural-looking restoration.
If you’ve been putting off a visit to the dentist because you don’t have time for a complicated restoration procedure, CEREC® 3D could provide the solution you need. One appointment is all it takes. Contact Welborne, White & O’Leary today for more information.
Missing teeth can cause difficulty with chewing and speaking, make surrounding teeth shift out of position, and leave you feeling self-conscious about your smile. Dental bridges can fill these gaps with natural looking, artificial teeth. Dental bridges are semi-permanent, meaning that only a dentist can remove them, and are generally supported on either side by crowns or dental implants. Dental bridges are an excellent way to restore full function and aesthetic balance to your smile. To learn more about dental bridges, contact Welborne, White & O'Leary Dentistry today.
It used to be that dentists could only repair cavities with unsightly metal fillings. Not anymore. Today, our dentists can repair cavities and decay with modern, tooth-colored fillings. Tooth-colored fillings are composed of durable composite resins or plastics that are molded into place during your visit then bonded securely to the tooth. These long lasting fillings are strong and look completely natural. To find out more about tooth-colored fillings, contact Welborne, White & O'Leary dentistry today.
If your teeth are stained, cracked, chipped, or discolored, then dental bonding might be the simplest and most effective way of restoring beauty to your smile. During bonding, your dentist will apply a thin coating of composite resin to your tooth. This resin, which has been carefully color-matched to your surrounding teeth, is then bonded under a high-intensity light and polished to its final shape. Results of this procedure are immediate and visually stunning.
